Who to watch
Meet our British athletes all aiming for success at the London 2012 Olympic Games.
There was an opportunity for up to two male and two female athletes to secure their places during 2011, with further selections in June 2012, as Britain challenges for medals in Hyde Park in August 2012.
The Dextro Energy Triathlon ITU World Championships London, presented by Tata Steel and the Series Grand Final in Beijing, China were the primary selection races in 2011. However, podium finishes in other rounds of the Series will also be taken into account.
Note: The rearranged 2011 ITU WCS Race at Yokohama, Japan can count as one of the WCS races that can be used in 2011. As such this race will have the same status as all other WCS races in the periods defined in the policy. The 2011 ITU World Sprint Championships at Lausanne, Switzerland is a sprint distance race, and so cannot count as one of the races that can be used in the 2011 qualification period.
Points won in Dextro Energy Triathlon ITU World Championships Series and World Cup events up to 31 May 2012 will count towards Britain being qualified to send a full team of six athletes (three men, three women). The top six nations can have a full team of six athletes, so this is not guaranteed for British athletes until the points qualification period is completed.
All remaining places will be selected by the end of June 2012 based on performances in the Dextro Energy Triathlon ITU World Championships Series, ITU World Cup races and ITU Continental Cup races during the period 1st January 2011 and 31st May 2012 and the 2010, 2011 and 2012 ETU Senior European Championships.
Fifty five men and fifty five women will contest the triathlon in Hyde Park on Saturday 4th (women, 9am) and Tuesday 7th August (men, 11am). Britain’s selection policy is available here.
British Triathletes Update
Helen Jenkins, Alistair Brownlee and Jonathan Brownlee have met the British Triathlon qualification criteria for the London 2012 Olympic Games following their medal winning finishes in London and podium positions in other previous rounds of the Dextro Energy Triathlon ITU World Championship Series. They have all achieved points 4.1.4 (a2) and (b) of the British Triathlon Federation 2012 Olympic Games Selection Policy.
There is an opportunity for other athletes to achieve the selection points above at the Grand Final in Beijing.
Should the positions be available, one additional male and two additional females will be selected next June and the final selection of TeamGB will be confirmed by the BOA in July 2012.
