Britain's elite recall top memories of 2015

Published:

2015 was another show-stopping year for the sport. With an 80-strong medal haul picked up by our elite triathletes and paratriathletes across the globe, it’s difficult to pinpoint a highlight. But what stood out for those on the start line?

“2015 was a really tough year and one in which I had to overcome injury. My rehab went exactly to plan and I was able to compete at the ITU World Championships - which weeks before I was told was not going to be possible. My highlight was finishing the season on a high and knowing exactly what I need to do over the winter to get amongst the medals in 2016."
David Hill

“My highlight of 2015? Easy! Fulfilling a childhood dream in qualifying for my first Olympic Games! Alongside one of my best friends too!"
Non Stanford

“On a personal level, coming second at ETU Triathlon European U23 Championships was the best thing that happened this year. It was really cool to see Gordon win in Baku as well.”
Marc Austin

“My highlight of 2015 would have to be winning the British Championships at Tri Liverpool, which was my first triathlon win. It also put me in a great position for the overall Super Series title.
On a non-triathlon note, I also bought my first car which was quite exciting.”
Morgan Davies

“My highlight of the year is from Baku European Games. It was an honour to be picked for Team GB and then to help Gordon win gold was amazing.”
Tom Bishop

“Winning gold at the Vitality World Triathlon London, for the fourth time, and in the last WTS race on the Olympic course was a definite highlight for me.”
Alistair Brownlee

“It was great to be part of a successful team approach in Baku and come away with gold for Team GB”.
Gordon Benson

“Travelling to Yokohama for the ITU World Triathlon Series with my training partners, celebrating Gordon turning 21 and finishing 4th.”
Mark Buckingham

“I would say a highlight of the year was seeing Gwen (Jorgensen) set the bar for us all to try and move up to! She has been a true champion on and off the race circuit this year.
Jodie Stimpson

“My highlight for 2015 was being in Rio for the Test Event and finishing 3rd was awesome, I hope 2016 can be even better.
Andy Lewis

“My 2015 highlight would be the return to running after a long term injury. Also the improvements within my strength and robustness, which became my focus and motivation for the year due to an injury.”
Sian Rainsley

“My 2015 highlight has to be racing at the Rio Paralympic Test event; leading out the water and the whole of the bike course along Copacabana beach is something I will never forget.

Also racing the ITU World Paratriathlon Event in Hyde Park and securing 2nd in front of all the home support was phenomenal.”
George Peasgood

“My highlight was racing on the Olympic course in Rio and finishing a respectable 12th - 2nd Brit across the line. Also on par with my 5th top 10 finish in Yokohama.”
Adam Bowden

“After a difficult start to the season, to win the ITU World Paratriathlon Event in Detroit against some tough competition was a real confidence boost and proved to me what I am capable of.”
Clare Cunningham
