Anglian Water breeds another batch of Great Britain Age-Groupers

Published:

Duathletes gave it one final push to make the Great Britain Age-Group Team this weekend at Anglian Water Duathlon in Cambridgeshire.

The race acted as the final opportunity to qualify for the Great Britain Age-Group Team for the 2016 ETU Sprint Distance Duathlon European Championships, with the first spots having been secured at Clumber Park and Vale of Glamorgan duathlons late March and earlier this month.

The course, travelling around Grafham Water, is known for its flat, fast roads; allowing sprinters to test their speed en route to get ahead of rivals.

Paul Vernon clocked the quickest time of the day to finish in 1:05:03 and top the M30-34 age category. An impressive 29:47 bike leg helped the RAF Tri member finish 16 seconds clear of Ben Cockburn who picked up the M20-24 title in 1:05:19.

Third to cross the line was Christopher Wright (M20-24) in 1:06:14.

Things were a little cleaner cut in the Women’s race. Kim Morrison (W25-29) of Tri-Anglia put in an impressive performance to cross the line convincingly quickest female of the day in 1:14:05. Claire Steels (W25-29) followed in 1:16:49 with Karen Bridge (W45-49) third quickest in 1:19:54.

A list of Great Britain Age-Group Team qualifiers from all three races will follow shortly. For full results of Anglian Water Duathlon, please visit here.
