Hannah Kitchen completes set of European Aquathlon Championship medals in Châteauroux with Bronze

Published:

Elite Bronze and Under-23 Silver plus a huge haul of 37 Age-Group podium finishes mark a successful performance for the Great Britain team at the ETU Aquathlon European Championships in France on Saturday

While she wasn’t quite able to defend her 2015 ETU championship win, the Bronze medal earned by Hannah Kitchen on Saturday in the 2016 ETU Aquathlon European Championships means that, alongside her 2014 Silver, she has now earned a medal of each colour over the past three seasons. Well known for her speed in the water, it was a fourth fastest overall run time that was perhaps the key to her podium finish in France. Having suffered with long-term running injuries over the past 12 months or more that should provide great comfort and confidence for the rest of the 2016 season and beyond.

Joining Hannah with an Elite podium finish was Nathan Tweedie. Eleventh overall in the Men’s Elite race, Nathan earned the Silver medal in the concurrent Elite Under-23 Championship event.

The Great Britain Age-Group team was once again out in force in both numbers and quality. 14 Gold medals headline a total return of 37 podium finishes. Michael Lewis (Gold, M20-24) was the fastest British AG athlete overall with the second fastest time of the day, while the honour of the fastest female British AG athlete goes to Johanna Gascoigne Owens (Gold, F35-39), who was also the first AG finisher overall.
