1485 Market Bosworth Duathlon Race Report

Race StartMarket Bosworth based 1485 Triathlon Club recently organised a very successful Duathlon event. This gruelling race saw nearly a hundred competitors from across the country, run 5 kilometres, cycle 21 kilometres and then run another 5 kilometres all centred at the idyllic setting of the Market Bosworth Water Park and local roads.

This is the third event the club have organised and from the positive feedback received from competitors it will certainly not be the last. Competitors of all abilities took part from the ‘first timer’ to the athletes that are top of their game.

Mens top threeThe weather was kind with little wind and it was dry, a good day to race. The overall winner was Jez Cox from St Albans in an unbelievable time of 1 hour 10 minutes and 12 seconds breaking the previous record set last October by 4 minutes. Local fast man Richard Whitelegg representing Hinckley Running Club came in a very respectable 8th place. Richard caused a panic amongst the favourites and gave the leaders a hard time, completing the first run in just over 17 minutes.

But it was the exceptional biking speed of Jez Cox that showed his class as he pulled away to put a comfortable couple of minutes lead on the chasing group then completed the final run with a fast finish to take the top spot.

Female winnersThe fastest female home was Natalie Barnard representing Charnwood Triathlon Club, finishing in a very fast time of 1 hour 19 minutes and 4 seconds.

1485 club member Linda Whitelegg beat off Hinckley Running Clubs Jo Cox in a sprint finish to take 3rd Female. Other 1485 Triathlon Club members to race included:

  • Dave Smith 27th
  • Steve Taylor 37th
  • Jim Bickley 51st
  • Simon Bedder 82nd
  • Rebecca smith 91st

The prizes were presented by the Chief Executive of the British Triathlon Federation,

A delighted Steve Robinson representing the event organisers said “I would like to say a special thank you to the owners of the Market Bosworth Water Trust for their continued support of both the 1485 Triathlon Club and the sport of Triathlon in the area.
