Alistair Wins Sports Journalist Association Award

Alistair Brownlee added yet another trophy to his fantastic 2009 season yesterday after being presented the UK Sport Award at the Sports Journalist Association (SJA) Annual Sports Awards lunch.

“I’m delighted to receive this award” said Brownlee, “It’s been an unbelievable season for me and receiving awards like this are very special both personally and for the sport.  Triathlon is really starting to get noticed”.

UK Sport Chair, Baroness Sue Campbell, said: “I am delighted to have presented Alistair with the UK Sport award at the SJA Sports Awards. He has had a tremendous 2009, culminating in that stunning win on the Gold Coast to clinch the world crown, and thoroughly deserves to be recognised for his achievements. He is one of our brightest prospects for 2012 and I wish him continued success.”

The UK Sport award is presented to the athlete UK Sport considers to have achieved continued success over the course of the year whilst conducting themselves in the right manner and being a role model to all.

In addition to winning the UK Sport Award, Alistair also made the final six in the SJA Sportsman of the Year Award alongside Phillips Idowu, Andrew Strauss, Tom Daley, Andy Murray and the eventual winner Jenson Button. Again fantastic news that Alistair’s success is getting noticed within the world of sports journalism.

Alistair then returned home to pack ready for his next exploit, the European Cross Country Championship in Dublin this weekend, where he gained selection for the GB Under 23 Team. The event will be broadcast on Sunday 13th December on BBC2 at 13.05 and via the red button from 10.00 until 13.10 and 14.00 to 15.00.
