Barry starts his tour with visits to Darlington, Richmond and Cleveland Tri Clubs.
On Wednesday 13th January, Barry headed to Darlington Triathlon Club at their weekly run session which was being led by Neil Smith. 23 juniors age between 8 and 16 were taking part, practicing different run drills and skills on the great Eastbourne Track.
The next club up for a visit was Richmond Tri Club. Juniors aged between 10 and 16 were enjoying a nice indoor spin class at Catterick Leisure Centre and looked very smart in their club t-shirts.
Finally, Barry headed over to Middlesbrough and joined Cleveland Tri Club at the fantastic Prissick Cycle Circuit. Juniors were enjoying a coached cycle session practicing their bike handling skills.
So what does the Young Persons Co-ordinator do?
Barry’s job is to ensure that all young people have the opportunity to be involved with the sport by working closely with the Junior Clubs, Junior Race Series Coordinator, Performance Co-ordinator and Academy Head Coach to ensure all children have a safe race series to participate and have clear guidance on the regional performance pathway or age group pathway.
- Act as a liaison with external partners such as Local Authority, School Sport Partnership, County Sports Partnerships
- Facilitate general junior queries
- Key point of contact for new athletes. Ensuring they go into age development appropriate training groups
- Support junior sessions, ensuring athletes receive a range of athletic experiences
- To collate feedback from athletes, coaches and parents/carers and feedback to the committee
- To act as the main point of contact for junior coaches and helpers
