Beautiful Bala provided the backdrop for the final Geneva GB Age-Group Team Qualifications

Published:

Last weekend saw the third and final chance for age-group athletes to qualify for the 2015 Geneva ETU Standard Distance Triathlon next July.

The Bala Standard took place on Sunday 7 September in Wales and the successful athletes who qualify from the event will make up the final places in the Great Britain Age-Group Team for the standard distance race in Geneva.

The event, organised by Wrecsam Tri took the competitors through beautiful Snowdonia scenery, and despite the surrounding the mountains, the course itself was relatively flat and ensured a day of fast racing.

In the men’s race, the younger athletes paved the way to the podium. Liam Lloyd (20-24) of Leeds Triathlon Centre claimed first overall in 1:50.43 followed by Alex Thorley (20-24) of Team Pro Motion Dynamics in second place with a time of 1:52.58. Third place went to James Travers (25-29) of Guernsey Tri finishing in 1:54:23.

In the women’s race, Catherine Jameson (30-34) of Pedal Power Loughborough was the first female across the line in 02:03.40. Sarah Hodgson (U20) of the City of Lancaster Triathlon followed in second place with a time of 02:06.59 before Helen Marshall (35-39) of INTRtri crossed the line in third place with a time of 02:12.07.

Nick Davies, the Team Manager for the 2105 Geneva ETU Standard Distance Triathlon commented: "The last ETU Standard Distance qualifier attracted an extremely strong field with many of the age-group winners looking to secure a place in Geneva. The standard in all age-groups was very high, with little separating the top four qualifiers from those competing for a roll down place.  Based on these performances, we hope to send a very strong team to Switzerland next July".
