The Big Cow Sprint Triathlon hosted the third and final qualification event for the Great Britain Age-Group Team at the ITU Sprint Triathlon World Championships in Edmonton last weekend.
In the men’s race, Alex Lawton of TORQ finished first overall with a time of 58.13, with Andy Tarry of TriCamp TFN RT in second in 58.42. It was a close run affair for the silver medal overall as just two seconds back was Iain Robertson also of TORQ, who finished in 58.44.
In the women’s race, Tanya Brightwell won first place overall with a time of 01:07.34. In second place overall was Becky Schofield of Tri Harder in 01:07.50 and Claire Vallance was third with 01:08.26.
It wasn’t all about winning those National titles, as Geoffrey Gearing, aged 80 from Exeter Tri Club commented: “I’ve been entering triathlons for nearly 23 years and it’s a great race. I was slower in the swim than usual but I really enjoyed it.”
The event was also the Triathlon England – National Sprint Triathlon Championships.
