In an evening aimed at celebrating the performances of the British athletes in Great Britain and Home Nation teams, the performances of Britain’s leading elite athletes in triathlon, duathlon and long distance triathlon have all been recognised at the British Triathlon Awards Evening hosted at Loughborough University earlier today (14 November 2014).

Whilst Alistair Brownlee and Jodie Stimpson celebrated the top awards of the evening, winning the Olympic Athlete of the Year and the British Triathlon Elite Triathletes of the Year awards, Sophie Coldwell and Ben Dijkstra were named British Triathlon Elite Junior Triathletes of the Year.

Sophie Coldwell has had an impressive year that saw her finish in fourth place in the ITU Junior Triathlon World Championships in Edmonton. One of her most memorable performances was in domestic action at Tri Liverpool, where the youngster from Keyworth in Nottinghamshire pushed the World Champion Gwen Jorgensen all the way to the finish line finishing second.

Sophie was also a member of the Great Britain Triathlon Team that won gold in the U23/Junior Mixed Relay event in Canada and junior mixed relay team that won bronze in the ETU European Championships in Kitzbuhel earlier in the season.

Ben Dijkstra has also had an impressive year with perhaps the highlight being victory at the Nanjing 2014 Youth Olympic Games in both the individual event and mixed relay, where he celebrated gold as part of the Europe 1 team. Ben also came second in the 2014 Geneva ETU Triathlon Junior European Cup and was part of the youth relay team that won silver at the 2014 Penza ETU Triathlon U23 and Youth European Championships

Former cycling world champion and Olympic medallist, Emma Pooley won the British Female Elite Duathlon of the Year Award after winning the ITU Duathlon World title, whilst Phil Wylie celebrated another successful duathlon season as he was named British Triathlon Male Elite Duathlete of the Year.

The British Triathlon Elite Long Distance Triathlete of the Year Awards were won by Tim Don and Jodie Swallow after performances in the Ironman 70.3 World Championships where Tim won bronze and Jodie silver.
