There are five elite British athletes racing at the Ironman World Championships in Kona this weekend on 13 October 2012.

Rachel Joyce is a member of British Triathlon’s Long Distance Triathlon Professional Squad, and the 2011 ITU Long Distance Triathlon World Champion. This year Rachel has won the Roth ETU Challenge Long Distance Triathlon European Championships and will be looking for more success in Kona after finishing fourth in 2011.

Rachel will be joined by Leanda Cave on the start line; Leanda finished in the silver medal position at the 2011 Henderson ITU Long Distance Triathlon World Championships and last year in Kona finished on the podium in third place.

In the men’s race, Tom Lowe and Paul Amey will compete over the 2.4mile swim, 112mile bike and 26.2mile run.

Joe Townsend will also compete before he travels to New Zealand to compete for the GE Great Britain Paratriathlon Team at the 2012 Barfoot and Thompson World Triathlon Grand Final Auckland.
