British Triathlon announce exciting new relationship with the GSK Human Performance Lab

Published:

British Triathlon has formed an exciting new agreement with the GSK Human Performance Lab, adding significant value to their already established relationship with MaxiNutrition, GSK’s sports nutrition brand.

The GSK Human Performance Lab is a world-class science facility focused on applied and discovery research, combining GSK science expertise, external advisors and cutting edge technology to deepen understanding of human performance.

Working in partnership with people and organisations committed to elite performance, the GSK Human Performance Lab aims to better understand how the body and brain function. This in turn can be used to develop improved training, recovery, nutrition and competition programmes for its partners, enabling them to break through the limits of human performance.

British Triathlon’s hugely successful world-class support team will be working with the GSK Human Performance Lab to push the boundaries in understanding some of the physiological and cognitive demands of the sport and more importantly, how to optimise strategies to deal with them.

In 2014, one of the important areas of research that British Triathlon and GSK will collaborate on is Recovery   - specifically understanding how scientific insight can help develop strategies to manage recovery, inflammation, soreness and pain, and ultimately enable British triathletes to train and race to their maximum capability.

“Working with the GSK Human Performance Lab allows us to really understand the key drivers behind exceptional triathlon performance and to find out which strategies work best for individual athletes. By better understanding the science behind performance, we can ensure that our athletes reach their maximum potential when they compete in major championships in 2014 and in the lead up to the Rio 2016 Olympic and Paralympic Games,” Brendan Purcell, Performance Director of British Triathlon said.

Mark Langley, General Manager of the GSK Human Performance Lab, added: “It’s great to be working with British Triathlon.  Our aim is to give them a greater understanding of what can drive and improve performance. All our partners benefit from the in-depth knowledge and understanding our scientists have in human performance, combined with the cutting edge technology and equipment we have at the facility.”
