Alistair Brownlee and Malcolm Brown awarded MBEs

The Queen's New Year's Honours list brought excitement to British Triathlon with recognition of two great ambassadors of our sport.

Alistair Brownlee was awarded the MBE, along with the rest of the TeamGB's gold medal winning Olympic and Paralympic athletes. He said: "I'm thrilled and honoured, and I'm looking forward to meeting the Queen."

Malcolm Brown, who has coached both Alistair and Jonathan Brownlee since their early teens and was the British Triathlon Olympic Performance Manager during the Games, receives an MBE for services to triathlon and the Olympic Games.

He has a long and distinguished career of service in sport.  Brown commented that he was 'surprised'!

BTF President, Dr Sarah Springman CBE said: "both Alistair and Malcolm have, in their own unique ways, provided inspiration to many on their respective triathlon journeys to date. Their MBEs are  richly deserved and who knows, just as in their training together, they will have the pleasure of following each other to receive their medals should they be invested on the same day!"

The Queen's New Year's Honours list for 2013 contained about 1350 names. Each recipient will be given one month's notice of their investiture in a ceremony at Buckingham Palace that will take place between February and April 2013.  Her Majesty the Queen, HRH the Prince of Wales and HRH the Princess Royal share the joy in making the awards.
