Calling All Triathlon Beginners!

Published:

British Triathlon, working in partnership with Liverpool City Council is calling on local people from Liverpool to set themselves a sporting challenge in 2016 and take part in Tri Liverpool.

The spectacular city-centre triathlon event is one of British Triathlon’s most popular races in the sporting calendar and will be back in the city for the fourth year on Sunday, August 14, 2016.

The urban course features an iconic indoor transition from swim to bike and bike to run inside the Echo Arena. With fantastic vantage points for spectators, Tri Liverpool 2016 will see an expected 1,700 entrants passing Liverpool’s iconic waterfront landmarks and completing the course in an Olympic and Paralympic year.

Entrants of all ages and abilities will take on the Tri Liverpool challenge including Great Britain’s elite athletes looking to secure a British Triathlon Championship title. Competitors looking to tackle the standard distance race will battle to become champion of their age-group, with a chance to claim a place of the Great Britain Age-Group Team for the 2017 ETU Standard Distance Triathlon European Championships.

Early Bird entry is available until midnight, 31 January, so we encourage you to book your spot soon, before prices go up. Full price details can be found here.

Tri Liverpool 2015 saw an upsurge in both beginner entrants and female participants with beginner training sessions across the city, on-the-day wetsuit hire and open water swim sessions helping beginners to fully prepare for their first triathlon. As a result, 45% of local people who took part in Tri Liverpool in 2015 were first timers.

In 2016, Liverpool City Council are keen to replicate and build on the success of 2015 by working with Triathlon England’s popular GO TRI triathlon training programme. These beginner sessions are informal, fun and offer novices professional training alongside likeminded people to help break down the barriers to participation.

Anyone of any age and ability can access GO TRI training sessions at Lifestyles Centres across
Liverpool. Throughout January 2016, Liverpool City Council and British Triathlon are offering the first 100 people entering the Tri Liverpool GO TRI+ beginner wave a month-long membership to their local Lifestyles centre for free. There, they will be able to access GO TRI training sessions and start their 2016 triathlon journey.

Of those 100 members, one will go into a draw to win a year-long membership to Lifestyles. Those
looking to take advantage of free Lifestyles memberships should use the code LIFESTYLES when entering the beginner wave.
