Olympic Champion, Alistair Brownlee, and double ITU World Champion, Helen Jenkins return from injury for the Discovery World Triathlon Cape Town this weekend. Cape Town features as the fourth of ten rounds of the ITU World Triathlon Series, which concludes in Chicago in September.

Brownlee suffered a late injury blow as the Series got underway in Abu Dhabi in early March. The ankle injury also left him on the side lines as younger brother, Jonathan, achieved dominant wins in Auckland and on the Gold Coast.

Jonathan Brownlee now sits in the world number one ranking position, but has chosen to miss this round.

Alistair Brownlee said: “I am a bit later starting my season than originally planned even though it is still only April. The key races for me are in August in September, so I'll be aiming to be in my best shape for then, but I'd like a good start on Sunday and I'm looking forward to racing in Cape Town for the first time.”

Brownlee will face ITU World Champion, Javier Gomez as well as the other in-form Spaniards, Mario Mola and Fernando Alarza, who occupy the top three ranked starting positions on Saturday. Home favourite, Richard Murray, starts as the number four ranked athlete.

The women’s race sees three Americans occupy the top four ranked positions on the start pontoon on Sunday. However, Gwen Jorgensen, who has not been beaten in her last eight Series starts, is not taking part.

Helen Jenkins starts her first race since injury ended her season early in Hamburg last July, less than two weeks before the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games. Vicky Holland, who won bronze in Glasgow, also returns from injury to begin her 2015 season.

Emma Pallant is the third female member of the British squad and is racing her second Series race of the year so far.

Jenkins said: "It's my first race in a relatively long time so my focus is on getting everything right on the day and seeing how my performance goes. I'm looking ahead to the test event in Rio, and this is an important stepping stone to getting there in good shape ready to race all of the best athletes in the world."
