Carl Shaw and Amy Forshaw win at Tri UK Shropshire Triathlon

Published:

The British Standard Distance Triathlon Championships took place last Sunday (24 June) at the Tri UK Shropshire Triathlon as almost 500 athletes competed all aiming to win the coveted British titles.

The event was also the second opportunity for standard distance age-group triathletes to book their place in the GE Great Britain Age-Group Team for the 2012 Auckland ITU Triathlon World Championships in October.

Carl Shaw (30-34) took the win in the men’s overall race, finishing in a time of 01:51.46. The win is Carl’s second victory in successive weekends and highlights he is one of the top British age-groupers around right now. Carl won the Dambuster Triathlon last weekend and was overall runner-up at the Triathlon England – National Duathlon Championships and British Aquathlon Championships earlier this year.

In second place was Neil Eddy (25-29) who was just under two-minutes behind Carl finishing in 01:53.41. In third place was Sam Wade (20-24), finishing in a time of 01:54.36.

In the women’s overall ranking, Amy Forshaw (30-34) took the win, crossing the line in 02:06.05. Speaking after the race, Amy said: “Raced the British Triathlon Olympic Distance Championship today against some top class opposition and I am pleased to say I managed to win overall. It’s great to be the British Champion.”

In second place was current British Age-Group Duathlon Champion (30-34), Anna Turvey. Anna finished second both overall and in her age-group at Shropshire Triathlon behind winner Amy. Third placed athlete Stacey Penn (30-34) continued the trend finishing third in 02:08.07.

There remains one final opportunity to qualify for the GE Great Britain Age-Group Team at the 2012 Auckland ITU Triathlon World Championships at the Deva Triathlon on 1 July. If you intend to qualify at the Deva Triathlon event, you must register your intent on the British Triathlon website by 5pm Friday 29 June 2012.
