The England and Scotland Commonwealth Games triathlon squads were announced today to join the Welsh squad, which has already been announced. The Brownlee brothers and Jodie Stimpson lead TeamEngland whilst young stars Grant Sheldon and Marc Austin join David McNamee in TeamScotland.
Speaking from his training base in Spain, Alistair Brownlee said: “To win a medal at a home games is something every athlete wants to achieve and I feel very lucky to have this opportunity again just two years on from London.”
Aaron Harris will be the third man for England, commenting: “It means a lot to me because England will be very competitive in triathlon, so I hope I can race well for the country in Glasgow 2014.”
Vicky Holland summed up the sentiment well for all athletes involved in the Commonwealth Games: “I'm excited to race in a home nation for another major championships and hope to experience something close to the phenomenal level of support that we received at the London Olympics.”
The triathlon events take place on 24th (individual events) and 26th (team relays) July at Strathclyde Park. The events are free to view and the men’s individual race will decide the first medals of the Games.
