Dutch delight for GB Age-Group Team

Published:

The Great Britain Age-Group Team were out in force again last weekend in Almere near Amsterdam with a 50-strong team competing in the 2014 Almere-Amsterdam ETU Challenge Long Distance Triathlon European Championships.

Once again, the team didn’t disappoint celebrating eight medals including gold for Elaine Garvican (35-39). Stanley Gruncell (20-24), Roslyn McGinty (40-44) and Roy Beeley (65-69) all won silver.

In the bronze medal positions, Great Britain celebrated four winning performances from Amy Kilpin (25-29), Kyle Follett (25-29), Lisa Buchanan (30-34) and Jane Senior (50-54).

It wasn’t only the age-group athletes who were celebrating as Victoria Gill claimed bronze in the elite races. Vicky is a previous World and European Age-Group champion, winning gold at the 2010 ITU Duathlon World Championships in Edinburgh and the ETU Long Distance Duathlon European Championships in Horst last year.

The season continues for the Great Britain Age-Group Team this weekend as they compete for world long distance medals at the 2014 ITU Long Distance Triathlon World Championships in Weihai, China.

Last chance for Geneva

In domestic action, aspirant Great Britain team members were racing at the Big Cow Sprint, the final chance to qualify for the 2015 Geneva ETU Triathlon European Championships.

The Big Cow Sprint took place on 13 September and saw competitors swim, bike and run through Emberton Country Park in Buckinghamshire.

In the men’s race, Edward Castro (25-29) of Bedford Cycling Club crossed the finish line first overall in 01:00.15. The win caps a great season for Edward, who recently returned from the ITU World Championships in Edmonton where he won the only gold medal for GB in the sprint distance race.
