British Inter-Regional Champions - East Midlands

Published:

The British Inter-Regional Championship took place at the National Water Sports Centre, Nottingham on Friday 22 August 2014. The East Midlands team went there looking to be further at least another notch up the podium after a bronze last year.

The East Midlands Team were full of hope as the day started with weather that could only be called changeable throughout the morning.

The morning started off with the Tri Star 2 category and in blustery conditions it was the girls from the team that stole the show with 3 coming in the top 5 places.  Masie Aubury (Lincoln Triathlon Club) struck home just 9 seconds beind the overwinner Daisy Davis from the South West.  In 3rd place only a further 12 seconds down was Elsbeth Grant  and then Hannah Brayer (Derby Triathlon Club) was in 5th place only 32 seconds down on the winner; that was a hotly contested race.  In the Tri Star 2 for the boys Xavi Salcedo (4Life Tri) was a fast finishing second 17 seconds behind Daniel Dixon from the North East.

In the Tristar 3 Category, again, it was the girls that shone.  The first two, Erin Wallace and Libby Mae Coleman (4Life Tri), had a real tussle throughout the race but it was Erin that eventually claimed 1st place for Scotland and Libby, having had very fast transitions, fading slightly on the run to finish only 12 seconds behiind.  In 3rd place was Georgina Denham (High Peak) who had one of the fastest bike splits of the day and rounding out the top 10 to keep the points coming in for East Midlands was Rebecca Brayer (Derby Triathlon Club).  For the boys it was a slightly disappointing race but it was an important 10th place by Harry Purdell that again made sure that East Midlands gained some more valuable points.

Overall victory went to East Midlands which was a fantastic result achieved by hard work from all of the athletes that represented the Team.  This result was also due to the hard work of the back room team from coach Hilary Johnson, Junior Series Cooordinator and of course all of the parents who have transported their off spring to the races so they could be slected.

Well done to all of the athletes who have taken part in the East Midlands Junior Race Series and pushed those that represented the team to greater achievements.  Let's look forward to next year and look to fill the top spot of the podium whilst retaining the team title.
