This weekend the Great Britain team will compete in one of the most challenging disciplines in triathlon at the 2014 Zittau ITU Cross Triathlon World Championship.
Set over a 1.5km swim, 36km off terrain bike and 9km cross country run, elite athletes will grind it out for a chance to call themselves the world's best on Saturday 16 August.
Jacqui Slack is the lone Brit competing in the elite female race, however having finished fifth in last year’s event and 12th back in 2011, she will be one to watch in Zittau.
There is a slightly larger contingent in the elite men’s race, with three athletes lining up on the start line in Germany. The team includes Llewellyn Holmes who finished 14th in the Shelby County ITU Cross Triathlon World Championships and XTERRA Southeast Championship two years ago.
Asa Shaw who won silver in the 2013 XTERRA World Championships and 17th in the 2013 ITU World Championships and Rory Downie who finished in 12th position at the ETU European Championships earlier this year and will be aiming to break into the top ten in Zittau.
As with all major Championships, the Great Britain Age-Group Team will also be in action on Saturday. At last year’s event, Great Britain won two gold, one silver and three bronze medals at the 2013 event in Den Haag.
The elite racing starts at 1.15pm BST and you can follow all the action from Zittau @triathlonlive on Twitter.
