GeoPark Adventures Triathlon a fantastic success

Published:

200 athletes competed in the two triathlon distances. Sprint and standard.

The sprint distance (750m swim, 20km bike, 6km run) started at 7.45am at Goodrington Sands with the standard distance (1500m swim, 40km bike, 12km run) staring at 8am.  The challenging courses taking in the best that South Devon can offer for stunning scenery and spectacular views, was described at ‘beautiful but brutal’.  The bike and run courses are typically Devon, challenging rolling hills are very much part of the challenge behind these triathlons.  The general view from those who competed yesterday’s triathlons is that both distances but especial the standard distance is the hardest in Great Britain.  This is why the athletes that not only competed the courses but those that finished in the top spots deserve the praise.  Many local triathletes competed, Torbay, Plymouth, Exeter and Cornwall but over half the field came from London and further afield.  This was highlighted with over 15 GBR athletes travelling to take part.   It was great to see a big sporting event on the wonderful green space that is Young’s park, Goodrington.  Due to the multi discipline activities triathlons are not easy to put together and organisers, GeoPark Adventure would like to appreciate the massive helping hands that came from the community of Torbay,  Torbay Council, Torbay Surf Life Saving Club (use of club house and providing awesome lifeguards), English Riviera Global Geopark, Torbay coast & countryside trust, Torbay Tri Club, Bay Cylces, Aropec Sports and Waitrose Torquay.
