Builds profile and delivers world-class performances
Racing over the sprint distance, Hewison rode up to the leaders on the bike and made her move at the start of the run. Her final run time was over 30 seconds faster than the next best athlete and her winning margin over the USA’s Kaitlin Shiver was 35seconds.
Hewison said: “It’s absolutely amazing, I’m really pleased. It was a great race for me. I came out of the swim in contention, and it showed that I could use my strength at the end.”
Having won silver at the ITU Duathlon World Championships two weeks ago, Hewison is targeting more success next year and has joined Darren Smith’s international coaching group, along with London 2012 Olympian, Vicky Holland, and Jodie Stimpson.
She added: “This year was about building a base as I had to take time out about a year ago with a lot of injury problems. I’ve been using this year to build back slowly and this was a great way to come back, so it’s full steam ahead for next year now.”
