High medal hopes for GB Age-Group Team in Majorca

Published:

Once again, the Great Britain Age-Group Team is travelling to Europe with the expectation of more medals at the 2014 Challenge-Paguera ETU Middle Distance European Championships on Saturday 18 October.

The GB Age-Group Team can expect spectacular scenery coupled with very warm weather this weekend in Paguera ,Mallorca; with the forecast promising very warm sea temperatures and a current forecast of 28 degrees celsius during the mid-afternoon. With fierce competition from some of the best age-group middle distance athletes in Europe, it is going to be tough out there.

The event, run by Challenge, will see over 230 GB Age-Group athletes compete alongside the best triathletes from across Europe. Athletes will swim 1.9km in the warm waters in the bay at Paguera before heading out onto the 90km undulating bike course, and will finish the final leg of the race with a 21.1km run through the town and along the beachfront.

British athletes have had a strong season so far and in Majorca will be expecting to reap the rewards of their consistent training throughout the summer months.

A couple of members of the team will certainly be looking to finish on the podium in order to defend their 2013 medals. Alison Rose-Quirie will be hoping to convert her 2013 bronze medal into silver or gold this year in the F50-54 age-group, as will Margaret Sills in the F60-64 age-group.

Great Britain Age-Group Team Manager, Brent Perkins, is travelling with the team and is looking forward to supporting the athletes:

“This is the largest team ever put forward by British Triathlon for this distance, and I expect some strong individual results and podium finishes across the board.”

This will be the final chance for the GB Age-Group Team to compete for medals in 2014 before the 2015 season gets underway. To see a list of the 2015 Championships please click here.
