Double Commonwealth Games medallist Jodie Stimpson starred in her very own event on Sunday 3rd August.

Double Commonwealth Games medallist Jodie Stimpson starred in her very own event on Sunday 3rd August alongside with hundred mainly novice triathletes at Sandwell Valley. 
 
After the event, competitors and spectators got the chance to have signed photographs as well as having their pictures taken with Jodie. Money was also donated to Jodie’s chosen charity “Dementia UK”, £150 was raised. 
 
There was a major need in the West Midlands area to have a triathlon boost – this event invited plenty of media coverage such as Birmingham Mail, BBC Midlands Today News, BBC West Midlands Radio 95.6FM and many photographers.  Oldbury swim and triathlon club have now boosted their club with many new members. 
This event has certainly got people talking and motivated more people to try future events...
 
Jodie, who resides locally, was pleased with the turnout commenting: “It’s fantastic to see so many people here trying out triathlon. If only two of them decide to keep it up and enter more events it will have been a success.”
 
The Jodie Stimpson Aquathlon was part of the Sandwell Valley Festival of Triathlon and was delivered by Oldbury Swimming and Triathlon Club with support from Triathlon England. Kirsty Shaw, West Midlands Regional Manager who had helped to organise two novice triathlon training sessions and open water swim days as part of the overall support provided. Kirsty said: "Myself and other Triathlon England staff have been working very closely with Oldbury Swimming and Triathlon Club for the past year. So it was fantastic to see it culminate into such a successful event."
 
Kirsty added: “After Jodie won her gold medals at the Commonwealth Games we had loads more people sign up.”
