Great Britain Elite junior and Paratriathlon teams confirmed

Published:

Great Britain triathlon team selectors have confirmed the junior and Paratriathlon teams that will join the squad of elite athletes at the ITU World Triathlon Grand Final in Chicago in just over week.

World titles will be decided in elite senior, U23, junior and Paratriathlon categories as well as amateur athletes racing in the Age Group categories between 15-19 September.

Following yesterday’s British Triathlon U20’s Festival in Mallory Park, Sam Dickinson, Jimmy Kershaw and Elizabeth Hood have been selected to join Ben Dijkstra in the elite junior events. George Goodwin may also be called up if an additional men’s place is granted by the International Triathlon Union.

The Paratriathlon squad was completed following Dave Hill’s fourth place finish at the ITU World Paratriathlon Event in Edmonton on Saturday. He secured the final spot on the squad of fifteen, which includes defending ITU world champions, Lauren Steadman and Alison Patrick.

As well as offering world titles, the Paratriathlon race will be hugely significant in terms of qualifying British slots at the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games, Head Coach, Jonathon Riall explained:

“Its been a hard season, racing more than we would want to race, but to be in the position where we have ten starts in Chicago means that we are giving ourselves the very best chance possible at the most important race of the Rio qualification period.”

The British Paralympic team selection policy will be published early next year.
