The Great Britain team was made up of over 230 of the UK’s best middle distance age-group athletes who escaped the bleak UK weather to compete for European medals and titles in the warm Mallorcan midday sun and Mediterranean Sea. 

 

The team secured 23 medals, of which seven were gold, eight were silver and eight were bronze.  This takes the total 2014 GB Age-Group medal tally to 260, including 89 gold, 88 silver and 83 bronze.

Brent Perkins, Great Britain Team Manager, commented: “At one of the toughest middle distance races on the calendar, Great Britain athletes secured many of the podium places at the ETU Middle Distance Championships in Paguera, Mallorca.”
 

Brent noted that after welcoming many of the athletes over the finish line, one comment stood out, ‘That was the hardest race I have ever completed’. 
 

Brent continued: “Our athletes showed steely determination and depth of character throughout the race. Well done GB, one and all.”
 

As the season comes to a close, age-groupers will start to think about their winter training and next year’s season. The Great Britain Age-Group Team will next be competing internationally at the 2015 Horst ETU Long Distance Duathlon European Championships on 12 April, when the 2015 season kicks off.
