Matt Sharp finishes tenth in Cape Town

Published:

Former Under 23 World Champion, Matt Sharp finished in tenth place last weekend at the 2013 Cape Town ITU Sprint Triathlon African Cup on Sunday 17 February.

Matt Sharp was the lone British athlete in the race, which was dominated by South Africans.

Richard Murray finished in first place with a time of 53 minutes 21 seconds, with compatriots Wian Sullwald and Henri Schoeman in second and third respectively.

Matt finished in 55 minutes 38 second, recording the fifth fastest run split of the event.

The Loughborough based athlete who is a member of the UK Sport Lottery funded British Triathlon World-Class Podium Potential Squad used the event to test his winter form and get some race practice before the season gets fully underway in April.

After the race, Matt commented: “I’m disappointed with the result, but in the past I have never raced well early in the year. My training is progressing well and I’m looking forward to my next race where I will have some more specific workouts under my belt.”
