New Events in the East Midlands

Published:

There are several events that are new for 2015. An opportunity to challenge yourself on new courses, different distances and new locations. Why not do something different in 2015?

There are several new races this season that will give those of you that are looking for something slightly different a new challenge.  These range from duathlons, sprint distance and standard distance triathlons, a new childrens event and a women's only race.  The sport is definitely growing in the East Midlands so look at the following to wet your appetite.

First up is the Varsity Triathlon on 22 March taking place in the grounds of Nottingham University on traffice free roads.  This is the first triathlon of the year so might be the one to stretch your legs and see how that winter form is taking shape.  It is also in aid of charity Nottingham Life Cycle 5 which aims to combat dementia. Cost of entry is £35.

SBR Events put on the first Louth Triathlon last year which proved to be very successful.  This year Louth Triathlon will take place on 6 September but before that there are two new events.  The first is the Skegness Triathlon on 10 May which is a sprint event taking place from Fresh Fitness at Richmond Holiday Park.  This is followed on 5 July with two open water races a sprint and standrad distance race at Tallington Lakes.  The Louth and Skegness events also form the Lincolnshire Tri Series for those that enter both races.  For more details and entry go to the SBR website.

PMA Events are in Derbyshire on the 17 May with the Clay Cross 'Coal Man' Triathlon.  A new event based in a quiet rural location in the old mining town of Clay Cross.  It has a scenic rolling bike course follwed by a 2 lap specatator friendly run course.  Look on the PMA website for further details and other events.

On the same day also in Derbyshire there is the first of three Darley Moor Duathlons so for those of you that do not swim there is an alternative event.  The other dates two races take place on 9 August and 1 Novmeber.  You can get all the information you need from the Crazy Legs Events website.

Cycling Mallory have put on a number of GO TRI Events and training evenings last year and have a GO TRI Duathlon on 21 March. Now they are stepping up to putting on some larger scale events this year.  The first is an Open Water Children's Triathlon that has been included in the East Midlands Junior Series; this is on the same course as the Inter-Regional Champioships later in the year.  The date for this race is the 31 May and the great thing about this day is that each age group will complete their race before the next wave starts.  Now for some real excitment they have a draft legal sprint triathlon so if you fancy draft legal racing this is a must for you on a fast open race circuit.  The date for this is 28 June and all the details for this race and the others can be found at the Cycling Mallory website.

To round things out there is also a women's only event in the shape of Triathlon Pink who bring their brand to the National Water Sports Centre, Nottingham on 2 August including various distances up to open water sprint.  This is the first time they have brought their events up this way so look for more informtion on the day at Triathlon Pink.

So 2015 is shaping up to be another exciting year of racing in 2015.  New events, established events and lots of different formats to keep everyone entertained. So wether you are competing or just wanting to get round have fun and enjoy your racing!!
