Rochdale Tri club at the Salford Triathlon

Published:

Written by head coach Danny Parr

On Sunday 17th August, Rochdale Triathlon Club members took on the Salford Triathlon, based around Salford Quays, in both the Olympic and Sprint distances with over 1,000 competitors.

Previously being an international / Commonwealth venue, competition was fierce.  The weather was wet and windy, which demanded concentration from competitors during the 1,500m (or 750m) open water swim, 40km (or 20km) bike leg around Salford Quays and Trafford Park, and the 10km (or 5km) waterfront run around the Quays.

For some members, this was their first taste of Olympic distance triathlon. Ray Sultan said “It was great.  It was so windy on the bike; I struggled to get some real pace going.  I’m going to work on that over the winter.  I was happy with my run though. “

There were some fantastic results from the club, with Nick Allen topping the list with a 19th position overall (2:21:04).

All athletes completed the course without incident, and can now move their focus to relaxing, returning to training or planning their next race.

If you’re thinking of picking up a new hobby, or fancy a new challenge, don’t hesitate to contact Rochdale Triathlon Club or come along to a session and meet us. Thursday evenings, at Middleton Arena, 7pm run, 9pm swim.
