Stimpson lines up with large GB squad at ETU European Championships

Published:

Next weekend (10-12 July) sees the ETU European Championships in Geneva. Commonwealth Champion, Jodie Stimpson, features in the elite women’s race. Britain’s best juniors and paratriathletes will compete, as will nearly 700 British amateurs.

Stimpson has recovered from an Achilles injury that side lined her from recent ITU World Triathlon Series races. She lines up on the tough, hilly course in Geneva with the Olympic gold and silver medal winners, Nicola Spirig (SUI) and Lisa Norden (SWE).

She’s joined by Britain’s Lucy Hall, Jess Learmonth, India Lee and Emma Pallant, whilst Matt Sharp, Grant Sheldon, David and Tom Bishop are in the men’s race.

Stimpson said: “I’m excited to be getting back out there and to be part of a big British team. It should be a tough race, which is what I need to help prepare me for the rest of the season.”

Paratriathletes will target European honours in one of their key races of the season. A very strong British squad includes both reigning ITU world champions, Lauren Steadman (PT4) and Alison Patrick (PT5).

Patrick, who is visually impaired, will be guided by Hazel Smith. Steadman races alongside world silver and bronze medal winning team mates, Faye McClelland and Clare Cunningham in the PT4 race.

Elite juniors, including Olympic Youth Champion, Ben Dijkstra, 16, will go up against the best under 20 athletes in Europe in both individual and mixed relay events.

695 British Age-Group athletes will complete the large squad, racing over sprint and standard distance events for ETU European titles in five year age bands.
