Athletes put on a stellar performance at Stirling Duathlon

The Stirling Duathlon took place on Sunday 29 March giving age-group duathletes a second chance to qualify for the sprint distance Great Britain Age-Group Team that will compete at the 2015 Adelaide ITU Duathlon World Championships this October.

The event took 157 duathletes through the picturesque grounds of Stirling University, with the Scottish weather holding out for the majority of the day as they battled for selection.

David Sloan (M20-24) clocked the quickest time of the day, crossing the line in 1:14:02. He was pushed all the way by Franco Mcsherry (M35-39) the GRC Tri member trailing the leader by just two seconds.  Third place overall in the men’s race was Richard Thurlow-Begg (M30-34), in 1:15:29.

In the women’s race, Claire Coey (W30-34) of Fusion Triathlon Club was first across the line in 1:17:09 Rosie Haddock (W25-29) followed in 1:21:14, with Joanne Clark (W40-44) the third fastest female of the day in 1:21:43.

The standard distance race acted as the triathlonscotland Scottish National Duathlon Championships.

For duathletes who missed the chance to qualify at Stirling Duathlon, the final chance is Stockton Duathlon on 26 April to make the sprint distance team for the 2015 ITU World Championships.
