Tri Star Series 2016

Saturday 25th June 2016 will be the 6th event of the TriStar series - Denbigh Junior Triathlon

The TriStar series is a succession of triathlon races across Wales, that caters for 9-14 year olds (age groups are based on their age of the athletes at 31 December 2016).  It has four key aims:

Provide a fun & enjoyable environment

Participation for all standards

Competition experience

Talent ID

The series is designed to encourage children and young people of all abilities to take up the growing sport of triathlon and has community participation at its heart. The series aims to provides competition in a fun and enjoyable environment, for complete beginners or experienced athletes.  Whilst it is a competitive series and successful results could count towards the discretionary place in the Inter Regional Championships parents should be aware that this is not a reason to put undue pressure on children competing.

As the Tristar series races are permitted through the National Governing Body they follow the British Triathlon Federation Rule Book.  As such athletes, parents and race organisers need to be aware of the key rules around racing and adhere at all times to these rules.  Appeals against race decisions must follow Paragraph 3.7 Right of Appeal under the competition rules.

At the Cardiff Junior Triathlon two children were disqualified as a result of a technical issue.  An appeal was taken to the BTF rules and tech and a complaints panel.  These two children’s race results have subsequently been reinstated.  It was necessary for Welsh Triathlon to follow proper procedure to investigate the issues.  This protects the interests of children and volunteers. Welsh Triathlon will now be reviewing the event and ensuring a safe and enjoyable race for next year.

The majority of our race organisers are volunteers and as such provide their time free of charge to organise events on our behalf.  We are very grateful for this time which often involves hours of time prior to, and after the event, as well as a long event day. Tristar races would not happen without these volunteers.  Welsh Triathlon will not tolerate any abusive behavior towards volunteers.  Any athlete or any member of an athlete party acting in this way will risk the athlete, no matter what age, being disqualified from the event and potentially the series.

We would recommend that all parents/guardians make themselves familiar with the British Triathlon rule book, which can be found on the link below
