Yee and Waugh make podium in Holten

Published:

Britain’s Alex Yee and Kate Waugh showed how they fared against the cream of the junior crop this weekend, both making the podium at the ETU Triathlon Junior European Cup in Holten, the Netherlands.

Yee narrowly saw off Australia’s Matthew Roberts to claim silver in the junior men’s race. The Brit put in a solid all-round performance to finish in 57:33; two seconds clear of Roberts who is two years his senior.  Gustav Iden was a clear winner, the Norwegian clocking 57 minutes exactly to take his first ETU European Cup win.

The women’s race was clearer cut. Waugh completed the course in 1:05:07 to cross the line in third place for Great Britain and claim a podium spot behind Sandra Dodet of France (1:04:52). The pair weren’t however able to challenge the USA’s winner, Taylor Knibb, who finished in impressive fashion in 1:03:54.

There were also top-10 performances from junior men Geroge Goodwin (7th) and Alex Chantler Mayne (8th).
