Saturday schedule unveiled to complete Columbia Threadneedle World Triathlon Leeds calendar

National Championship racing alongside opportunities for beginners, paratriathletes and up and coming youngsters offers a lot to look forward to at this year’s Columbia Threadneedle World Triathlon Leeds.

With the Sunday event schedule already announced, jam-packed with age-group and elite action on 11 June, today (Tuesday 14 February) a host of racing opportunities on Saturday 10 June within Roundhay Park were unveiled to whet the appetite of a new batch of potential participants.

The day will witness a TriStar triathlon, with opportunities for TriStar 2 and 3 athletes to test their speed over a short course within the park’s grounds before youth and junior athletes line up for the next instalment of the British Triathlon Youth and Junior Super Series. Britain’s top youth and junior talent will race the three disciplines over the super-sprint distance in a bid to collect those all-important points for towards their series tally.

The spotlight will also fall on the Triathlon England National Aquathlon Championships as some of the nation’s top multi-sport athletes take on the sprint distance event on Saturday afternoon. The second of six Triathlon England National Championships in 2017, the 750m swim and 5km run will decide who picks a coveted national title in June.

We now have a full weekend schedule of triathlon activity confirmed for Columbia Threadneedle World Triathlon Leeds and are thrilled to be able to offer opportunities to participants of all abilities across 10-11 June.

24 hours before the world’s best take to the stage in Leeds, triathlon beginners in their hundreds will embark on their own personal challenges in Roundhay Park with the GO TRI event. Designed to allow participants to experience the atmosphere of the weekend whilst offering a taster of the sport, they will together tackle a 400m swim, 10km bike and 2.5km run; cheered all the way to the finish line.

A new addition to the calendar, Saturday also offers a chance for paratriathletes to be part of the Columbia Threadneedle World Triathlon Leeds action. Over a 400m swim, 10km bike and 2.2km run, up and coming paratriathletes have the opportunity to compete alongside experienced racers and enjoy the moment of crossing the Roundhay Park finish line.

“From those embarking on their very first swim in Waterloo lake, right through to our next generation of sporting talent, we’re confident both competitors and spectators will be soaking up some amazing atmosphere in Roundhay Park, which will reach its peak on Sunday afternoon when the world’s best go head to head.”
