Phil Yarde commenced his service to triathlon in Great Britain as an official, graduating to Race Referee status and Chair of the British Technical Federation Technical Committee from 1993-1997.

Phil played an active role at the ITU World Championships in Manchester. He was also elected to the ETU Technical Committee during this period. He became a Board member of the British Triathlon Association in the early 90s and was promoted to Vice-Chair in 1993, implementing the first Out-of-Competition Anti-Doping testing and various key governance measures. He was elected Chair from 1996-1998 and led negotiations with our dear friends north of Hadrian’s Wall in preparation for our present halcyon relationship.

He presided over the first Lottery Funding applications, accompanied by our first comprehensive Corporate Plan and our first six figure sponsorship deal that set British Triathlon up for athlete participation in our first Olympics.
