As part of the British Triathlon Competition Rules, individuals are required to become a member of the sport when taking part in a British Triathlon permitted event. Day Membership is for individuals who are not annual Home Nation members of British Triathlon.
What is Day Membership?
A day membership is a one day membership to a Home Nation of British Triathlon (Triathlon England, Welsh Triathlon and Triathlon Scotland). Individuals who are not annual Home Nation members of British Triathlon must purchase a day membership in order to take part in a British Triathlon permitted event. Day membership provides a race licence and public liability insurance cover only for the duration of the event it was purchased for.
Day Membership Terms & Conditions
Where can you purchase Day Membership?
A day membership can be purchased while registering and paying for a British Triathlon permitted event through the British Triathlon online entry system, or directly through an event organiser.
How much is a Day Membership?
A day membership costs £1 for participants aged under 20 and between £4-6 for those aged 20 years and above.
How long is the Day Membership valid for?
A day membership is valid for the duration of the event that an individual is taking part in. The day membership is only valid for the event it was purchased for and it is not transferrable to other events or other individuals.
Who can purchase a Day Membership?
Any person taking part in a British Triathlon permitted event must purchase a day membership with the exception of those participating in a GO TRI event or those living overseas. Day memberships are included within the entry price of a GO TRI event and are not required to be purchased additionally. Further information regarding overseas residents can be found below.
What does Day Membership provide?
A day membership provides a race licence and public liability insurance cover up to £15 million. Public liability insurance is defensive cover that protects an individual if they cause an accident injuring or damaging someone else or someone else’s property. This only applies if the individual is legally responsible for the accident. Compensation is paid from the insurers to the person pursuing the claim, so that the individual does not have to pay the full amount. Individuals will only pay the excess of £250 if a claim for injury or damage is successful.
What doesn't Day Membership provide?
Day membership does not include personal accident cover, or insurance cover for an individual’s equipment and kit. Day membership does not provide legal support services for any incident in which an individual is involved.
Who do I need to tell if I have an accident?
If an individual who has purchased a day membership is unfortunate to be involved in an accident at the permitted event covered by their day membership, they will need to visit the Insurance Centre as soon as practicably possible to report the accident.
Overseas Residents
Overseas residents are exempt from becoming a member of the sport when taking part in a British Triathlon permitted event. Overseas residents are not required to purchase a day membership or hold a race licence. However, in order to take part in a British Triathlon permitted event, overseas residents must have their own public liability insurance (minimum indemnity of £5 million) in place for the event.
By entering a British Triathlon permitted event, overseas residents do so confirming that they will have public liability insurance in place for the duration of the event. Proof of valid public liability insurance may be requested at the event and in the case of any subsequent third party claims.
Unfortunately, British Triathlon are only able to provide public liability insurance to UK residents. If an individual lives abroad permanently, public liability insurance cannot be provided by British Triathlon through either annual Home Nation membership or through day membership. Overseas residents are encouraged to contact their national federation for guidance.
