The inaugural Hemel Hempstead Triathlon hosted by Sportspace Dacorum wins award at Hertfordshire Service to Sport Awards
Hemel Triathlon won an award for it's inaugural event that took place in October. They won third place in Community Project of the year as they involved different sectors of the community in their project plan and delivered of a very novice friendly triathlon. The distances were 400m Swim in the outdoor pool, 8K Bike round the streets of Hemel and then a 5K road run to finish. The shorter bike route really encouraged new people to try the sport and the event had a huge number of women take part which is great for our #Thisgirlcan campaign. Sportspace organised specific training sessions within their exercise program and a British Triathlon novice training day was also organised on their site to help newbies learn all about the big day.
Sportspace Dacroum did a wonderful job in preparing a safe and accessible race. British Triathlon helped fund it for this year only and provided advice and support etc leading up to the day and on the day too. Cliff King a local event organiser was also heavily involved in the lead up to the event along with being Race Organiser and also Nice Tri Events came along to set up and run transition along with the chip timing. It was a great example of partnership working at it's best.
Congratulations to all invovled especially Sportspace who had never done anything like this before.
