There was no holding Hoddesdon back at the inaugural Hertfordshire County Championships this weekend, with the local Triathlon club securing several individual age group titles, to claim the overall title of County Champions at Stanborough Lakes this weekend.

Fierce competition for the coveted title came from athletes spanning 9 Hertfordshire Clubs, contributing to a hotly contested race of over 150 men and women. The whole team raced fantastically in the race of a 750m swim, 22km bike and 5km run.

HTC’s men dominated, taking 4 of the top 5 places in the Sprint event; Reece Barclay won the race – with a time of 1.05, Anthony Collier, Pas Blackwell & Chris Price closely followed in 3^rd, 4^th & 5^th. David Craddock also impressed, registering the fastest 5k run split in 17.00 minutes and in the 70-75 year old category Jon Nugent placed 2^nd.

Lucy Charles continues her run of form, securing an age group win, as well as 2^nd place overall, joined on the podium by Emily Evans in her debut for Hoddesdon in 3^rd. Hannah Bates, notably stepped up to 6^th overall – with a convincing Junior category win, despite limited recovery time from her qualification for ITU Sprint World Championships just the previous day.

Ladies Club Captain Natasha Pack, ‘the event had a fantastic atmosphere, and as a relatively new club we were super happy to line up at this inaugural event, let alone be taking home the title. It truly reflects the tenacity, dedication and team ethos of the whole club, along with our army of supporters and volunteers and obviously St Johns Ambulance. We saw impressive performances across the board from our 15 year olds to 70 year old athletes, and cannot wait to convert more triathletes for next year’s defence of county champions!
