The newly formed Making Sparks Triathlon club is a club specifically trying to cater for the needs of people with Multiple Sclerosis.
Victoria Bovill - Lamb explains why she set up the club
"Life changed, not necessarily for the worse, when in 2006 I was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis. Four years later I was warned that I was likely to lose my balance and require a wheelchair. In complete defiance I resigned from a highly stressful job and moved to Australia. It was here that I embraced the healthy outdoor lifestyle and took up triathlon. My plan worked, my condition stabilised and I returned home at the beginning of 2015 and successfully completed two ‘novice’ triathlons.
I have trained with local triathlon clubs, made to feel very welcome but found the experience frustrating, mainly due to inconvenient training times. It is for this reason that I felt a club specifically for people with MS was required, providing a supportive environment with people who understand the intricacies of the condition. More importantly, training can be organised at more convenient times and pitched at a level taking account of individual’s strengths and weaknesses"
Location: During the warmer months the club will meet at the Letchworth open air swimming pool, Icknield Way, SG6 4UF.
