Llanelli Multi-Sport Festival

Event Overview

Important Llanelli Update - Junior and Senior Athletes

We have had confirmation the event at Llanelli can go ahead under the provision it is run as an elite event only. This means any athlete taking part will need to have elite dispensation from either England, Scotland, or Wales. We will be opening applications for the event on Tuesday 6th at 5pm and wanted to share the following with you.

It is important to understand that we have been left with very limited time to prepare and deliver this event and we are working very hard in a challenging and ever changing landscape to do so because we believe that creating opportunities for athletes is important and something we believe very strongly in. We are also very aware that due to the circumstances there will of course be questions as we are all operating in unchartered waters - we have done our best to create a list of FAQ’s, which are avalible below. Please ensure you read this list before sending us any questions. Your patience and understanding in all of this is very much appreciated.

Event Date

The event will now take place on Sunday 16th May.

Event purpose

  • Due to the Elite guidelines set out by the Welsh government and the need to keep the event numbers to an absolute minimum the event will be used for those racing for selection purposes ONLY. The event will not be part of the Super Series
  • It will be a trial race for the European Junior Championships, the (still to be fully confirmed) European U23 Championships and for selection into ITU Continental Cups (Senior) and ETU Junior Cups

Event format

  • The event will run as draft legal over the sprint distance in Llanelli on the same course we have used for the last few years
  • We will be running 3 waves - Senior Male (50 athletes) - Junior Male (50 athletes) - Junior/Senior Female combined (55 athletes)
  • Bubbles will be created on the day for each wave with all athletes being required to deliver a negative lateral flow test on entrance to the venue (see FAQ’s for more info)
  • As part of the guidelines set by the Welsh government for Elite events NO SPECTATORS will be allowed on site (see FAQ’s for more info)
  • Athletes will be able to be dropped off (see FAQ’s for more info)
  • Events will run during the morning

Selection process

  • All athletes that are competing at Llanelli MUST be included on the Elite Framework of their relevant Home Nation
  • Athletes in Scotland and Wales have been communicated with separately regards their Frameworks and a simplified version of the English Elite Framework is attached for reference
  • We have created separate selection policies for both age groups - Senior and Junior - and these are also attached
  • Given the complication of combining both the Elite Frameworks of 3 Home Nations along with selection policies in the hope of simplifying the process we have created a list of what we believe to be eligible athletes, in rank order, who meet both criteria - also below. The list provided below of eligible athletes is NOT an exhaustive list - it is our best effort at one.
  • If you believe that your name has not been included and you are BOTH eligible (on the elite framework) AND selectable please contact SuperSeries@britishtriathlon.org immediately
  • World Class Programme athletes may be added to senior events if international travel plans change - if so they will added ON TOP of existing start numbers
  • A very small number of GB based foreign athletes who meet the selection policy AND hold elite status with their National Federation may also be added on top of existing start numbers IF on site capacity allows, such athletes should register their interest with us in the first instance by contacting SuperSeries@britishtriathlon.org

  • The current entry process WILL BE voided.
  • All athletes that meet the criteria and wish to compete MUST re-apply below.

  • A complete start list will then be produced, and entries will be allocated.
  • The application deadline is 15th April at 9am
  • The race entry fee will be £65 which will include a £25 surcharge to cover the costs and administration of on site covid testing/setting up race bubbles

Travel and accommodation

  • At present, assuming all three Home Nations continue to open up according to their set roadmaps, unrestricted travel into and through each Home Nation will be allowed
  • Similarly, hotel accommodation in Wales will be open if you require an overnight stay
  • As always, we would advise booking refundable accommodation for this, and any other super series event
  • When in Wales you will need to be aware of and abide by the Covid rules as outlined by the Welsh Government. These often differ from those of the Scottish and English governments to please ensure you understand them. Further information can be found here.
