Nomination Information

The Triathlon England Awards provide an opportunity to recognise the many numbers of volunteers, coaches, officials, clubs and events that have made triathlon a truly unique sport in 2023.

Nominations are made on a regional basis, with a regional winner being determined from the nominations in the 10 categories as judged by an awards committee. The winners from each of the 10 English regions in these categories will then go forwards to a national awards panel who will determine the national award winner in each of the 10 categories.

1. Club of the Year

This award is for clubs that are committed to providing an exceptional experience for their members in swim, bike and run.

If your club does any of the following, then we’d love to receive a nomination from you.

  • Go above and beyond to ensure that every member has a fantastic triathlon experience through coaching, leading, organising well-structured training sessions, and fostering a welcoming and inclusive atmosphere?
  • Actively support Triathlon England initiatives, helping to promote the sport and its values within the local community working to grow the sport and create opportunities for both new and seasoned triathletes?
  • Place a strong emphasis on caring for volunteers, recognizing their essential role in success supporting their well-being and offering ongoing support and development.
  • Engage with the local community promoting health and fitness, through swim, bike and run.

Prerequisites

  • Must be affiliated to Triathlon England in 2023
  • Must adhere to all relevant safeguarding standards
  • Must not have been a regional Club of the Year in 2023
  • Self-nominations will be accepted

2. Participation Coach of the Year

This award celebrates the unsung heroes of the sport, recognizing that while elite medal winners often take the headlines, the heart of triathlon beats in communities across the country.

Do you know a dedicated coach who work tirelessly to expand participation and provide essential support to athletes at the grassroots level?

These coaches play a pivotal role in fostering a love for triathlon, nurturing the talents of aspiring athletes, and creating a welcoming and inclusive environment.

They are instrumental in spreading the joy of triathlon, making it accessible to people of all ages and abilities, and ensuring the sport's growth at the local level.

The Participation Coach of the Year Award acknowledges the vital contribution these coaches make to the triathlon community, emphasizing that their commitment is the bedrock of the sport's ongoing success.

Prerequisites

  • Minimum Level 1 or Foundation British Triathlon qualified coach
  • Must be a coach member of Triathlon England and sanctioned to coach having complied with all safeguarding standards.
  • Must volunteer for a minimum of one hour per week.
  • Must not have been awarded regional Coach of the Year in 2023
  • Self-nominations will not be accepted

3. Volunteer of the Year

This award celebrates the invaluable contributions of individuals who serve as the lifeblood of the sport.

We encourage nominations for young volunteers, recognising that the dedication of the next generation is vital to the sport's sustainability.

Volunteers selflessly dedicate their time and energy to various aspects of triathlon, from organising events to chair committees, to coaching, team management, and more. Their commitment and passion are the driving force behind the sport's growth and success, fostering a sense of community and shared enthusiasm.

This award highlights the importance of recognising and appreciating the tireless efforts of volunteers, their support is the backbone of the triathlon community.

Prerequisites

  • Must not have been awarded regional Volunteer of the Year in 2023
  • Self-nominations will not be accepted

4. Technical Official of the Year

The Triathlon England Technical Official of the Year Award is a tribute to the crucial work of technical officials and moto officials throughout the country.

These dedicated individuals invest significant time and effort to ensure the safe and efficient conduct of triathlon events.

Nominations are sought to acknowledge and celebrate officials from all levels of experience, whether they are seasoned experts or just embarking on their officiating journey. Their roles range from overseeing local events to managing the highest-level competitions. These officials are unsung heroes who help triathlons run smoothly and securely, contributing to the sport's success.

The award underscores the significance of recognizing their vital contributions to the triathlon community.

Prerequisites

  • Must have officiated at a minimum of two Triathlon England permitted events from 1 January 2023 to 31 December 2023
  • Must not have been awarded Technical Official of the Year in 2023
  • Must be a member of Triathlon England
  • Self-nominations will not be accepted

5. Large Event of the Year

The Triathlon England Large Event of the Year Award celebrates the outstanding triathlon and multisport events that provide participants of all levels with an exceptional experience in swimming, cycling, and running.

These events serve as a shining example of the sport, leaving a positive impression on both athletes and the wider community.

Open to events held from January 1, 2023, to December 31, 2023, with 200 or more participants, this award recognises events that go above and beyond in delivering a memorable and well-organized triathlon experience. From novice participants to seasoned athletes, these large events offer an inclusive and inspiring atmosphere that showcases the sport's vibrancy and appeal.

This award highlights the significance of these events in promoting triathlon and multisport, as they play a pivotal role in shaping the sport's image and attracting athletes of all backgrounds and abilities.

Prerequisites

  • Received a Triathlon England event permit
  • Took place since 1 January 2023
  • Involved 200 or more participants
  • Must not have been awarded large event of the year in 2023
  • Events may be nominated for multiple categories for 2023 awards but are only able to win in one category
  • Self-nominations will not be accepted

6. Small Event of the Year

The Triathlon England Small Event of the Year Award recognizes the remarkable achievements of triathlon events that host fewer than 200 participants, yet provide an exceptional experience in swimming, cycling, and running for competitors of all skill levels.

These small-scale gatherings play a crucial role in creating a positive and inclusive representation of the sport.

These events, despite their size, manage to deliver outstanding experiences that resonate with athletes, from beginners to seasoned competitors. They exemplify the values and spirit of triathlon, fostering a sense of camaraderie and enthusiasm within the sport.

This award emphasises the importance of these smaller events in showcasing the sport's appeal and inclusivity. Demonstrating the contribution to the broader triathlon community and highlights the role of small events in nurturing the sport's growth and positive image.

  • Received a Triathlon England event permit
  • Took place since 1 January 2023
  • Involved fewer than 200 participants
  • Must not have been awarded small event of the year in 2023
  • Self-nominations will not be accepted

7. Children's Event of the Year

The Triathlon England Children's Event of the Year Award celebrates triathlon and multisport events specifically designed for children under 18 or those events that incorporate a significant component dedicated to young participants.

These events offer valuable opportunities for children to engage with and experience the world of triathlon.

These youth-focused events not only provide a safe and encouraging environment for children to get involved in the sport but also play a pivotal role in nurturing the next generation of triathletes. Whether exclusively designed for young participants or featuring dedicated segments for them within a larger event, these events prioritise introducing children to the excitement of triathlon and multisport.

This award highlights the importance of fostering a positive and inclusive atmosphere for young athletes, emphasising the vital role these events play in instilling a love for the sport from an early age and promoting a lifelong passion for triathlon.

Prerequisites

  • Received a Triathlon England event permit
  • Took place since 1 January 2023
  • Included substantial element for under 18 participants.
  • Must not have been awarded children’s event of the year in 2023
  • Self-nominations will not be accepted

8. Engagement Award

The Triathlon England Engagement Award is a tribute to individuals or groups who have made a remarkable impact in engaging both active triathletes and the broader swim, bike, run community.

This award recognises those who have gone above and beyond to foster a sense of belonging, motivation, and community spirit within the sport.

Whether this is through introducing newcomers to the sport, collaborating with community groups, or ensuring members stay inspired and connected, nominees for this award have played a vital role in enhancing the physical, mental, and emotional well-being of those involved in swim, bike, run. Their efforts contribute to the positive influence of the sport on individuals' lives.

Nominations for the Triathlon England Engagement Award can encompass individuals, groups, clubs, or organisations, emphasising the diverse and impactful ways in which they have helped others experience the wide range of benefits of triathlon, both within and beyond the community.

  • Activity since 1 January 2023
  • Self-nominations will be accepted

9. Outstanding Contribution Award

The Triathlon England Outstanding Contribution Award is a tribute to individuals, clubs, or organisations whose long-term dedication and unwavering commitment have left an indelible mark on the sport. This award acknowledges those who have made a sustained impact, whether as coaches, volunteers, event organisers, or as any individual or group, over an extended period.

Nominees will stand out for inspiring and motivating others through their achievements, adventures, resilience in the face of adversity, or any other extraordinary contributions. They will have played a pivotal role in shaping the triathlon community and promoting its values.

This award underscores the significance of recognising and celebrating the exceptional individuals, groups or organisations whose engagement with swim, bike, run has had a lasting and positive effect on the sport and its participants.

Prerequisites

  • Must not have been a regional Outstanding Contribution Award winner in 2023
  • Self-nominations will not be accepted

10. Swim Bike Run Opportunity of the Year

Launched in July 2023, the Swim Bike Run programme is for people looking to build their confidence and move more, either on their own or alongside friends and family – there’s something for everyone! Whether it's learning new bike skills, swimming in open water or exploring your local area, Swim Bike Run opportunities across the country can provide anyone with their first taste of the sport.

We want to hear about the very best of these opportunities since the programme’s launch, and how they have supported new participants to begin their journey in swim, bike and run.

This award is open to any Swim Bike Run Develop, Explore, Mini and Local opportunity
