More than 40 GO TRI beginners gathered at the Brownlee Centre, Leeds, earlier this month, to celebrate the Official Launch of the Leeds Triathlon Centre.
Throughout the afternoon of Tuesday 2 October, participants had the opportunity to learn and improve on new skills including transitions, warm up activities and bike skills. The participants were joined by some of Great Britain’s top triathlon performers; Gordon Benson, Mark Buckingham, Sam Dickinson and Lucy Hall, who use the facilities regularly for their training and were there to share their tips.
Leeds Triathlon Centre, a collaborative partnership between British Triathlon, Leeds City Council, Leeds Beckett University and University of Leeds, was formed back in 2004 but this month’s event marked the partnership becoming sustainable for years to come. The Brownlee Centre, a product of the Leeds Triathlon Centre partnership, opened its doors last year and has become the heart of the sport in Leeds; housing some of Britain’s top triathletes along with providing a location for newbies to learn the basics via GO TRI.
Moving forward, it is hoped that more GO TRI participants and amateur triathletes will make use of the facilities during the lead up to the AJ Bell World Triathlon Leeds next June, the city’s biggest triathlon event.
Jenny Vincent, GO TRI Strategic Lead, said: “It was fantastic to welcome new and existing members of the GO TRI community to join us to celebrate the launch of the Leeds Triathlon Centre. GO TRI is all about providing great experiences to those just starting out their triathlon and multisport journey and this exciting partnership will ensure we can continue to provide local, affordable and fun GO TRI opportunities in Leeds.”
