With the 2020 Triathlon England Awards now open for nominations, we got in touch with our 2019 winners to hear what it meant to them to be nominated and win.
“As a club, we were set up in 2006 by a group of friends,” commented CLUB PERSON. “We’re inclusive and welcoming of all ages and abilities, and the club has grown in numbers and experience since we began.
“The nomination for Club of the Year was testament to the hard work and dedication of the coaches and other volunteers around the club and confirmation of the fantastic support that we have given members.
“To be nominated and then win was both humbling and extremely rewarding to be recognised for how far we have progressed.
“We wouldn’t survive without volunteers running the club. Thanks to them we’re able to support our members and I’d certainly recommend nominating volunteers as a way of recognising how valued and appreciated they are.
“Having the Triathlon England Awards is so important as a way of rewarding and recognising volunteers because they are the lifeblood of the sport and their important contribution deserves to be publicly recognised.
“Hopefully, the awards will also inspire more people to get involved with volunteering and supporting those around them in clubs, events and coached sessions.
“The work of our volunteers during lockdown has been vital to maintain our club identity and community when members have been unable to physically get together. They have done, and continue to do, great work in providing motivation and support.
“It is extremely important to recognise and celebrate this vital contribution during what’s been an extraordinary time for all of us”
The 2020 Triathlon England Awards are now open for nomination and will close on Wednesday 2 September at 12 noon.
There are seven categories to nominate someone in: Club of the Year; Coach of the Year; Key Worker of the Year; Multisport Event of the Year; Volunteer of the Year; Virtual Activity of the Year; and Virtual Coach of the Year.
