With the 2020 Triathlon England Awards open for nominations, we got in touch with 2019 Volunteer of the Year, Nick Davies, to hear what it meant to him to be nominated and win.
“I was really chuffed to have my name put forward for Volunteer of the Year because it was so nice to be placed in the same rank as so many volunteers around the country who make the sport happen.
“There are so many different volunteers who help run our clubs, support events, coach athletes of all levels, manage teams and represent Britain on various national and international bodies, so it was great to be recognised amongst them.
“Individuals and their families are good at thanking volunteers, and it’s really nice to be thanked even though we enjoy what we do. To have the national awards is something really special though, because the formal recognition and knowing people have taken the time to nominate you is such a good feeling.
“This year we’ve all been taking part in triathlon in different ways to normal thanks to volunteers who have been going above and beyond, keeping us motivated and organising new ways to keep us engaged.
“I think it’s really important that as we come out of lockdown, that we remember those who have kept us going with activities and opportunities and don’t just reset to normal and forget that we are part of a wider triathlon community.
“This year’s awards will be a great way for us to thank and recognise the hard work of volunteers who have served us so well during lockdown, especially with the new categories.”
The 2020 Triathlon England Awards are now open for nomination and will close on Wednesday 2 September at 12 noon.
There are seven categories to nominate someone in: Club of the Year; Coach of the Year; Key Worker of the Year; Multisport Event of the Year; Volunteer of the Year; Virtual Activity of the Year; and Virtual Coach of the Year.
