Regional Junior Race Series for 2018

Published:

The 2018 race season is fast approaching with everyone either busy organising races or planning the events they wish to enter.  None more so than the junior triathletes who are looking to race in their local Regional Junior Race Series.  The series is fully inclusive and offers great opportunities for novices as well as those looking to take their first competitive steps onto the talent pathway.  In many regions the series is used for team selection for the Inter-Regional Championships that take place in September.

Triathlon England is working with the regions to develop the series nationally.  The aim is to make the series more consistent by improving the quality of the races, providing better communication, ensuring value for money and giving everyone the opportunity to take part no matter what a person’s background.  This year there will be three main changes.  The first change is that Triathlon England will be delivering a results service that will provide a system to update results automatically to the regional website.  Secondly, all regional race series will now require those wishing to count in the series league to be a home nation member and to be a member of that region.  This does not stop anyone taking part but to receive points and awards you must be a home nation member in that region. Additionally, there will be an improvement to the junior website for those wanting to find and compete in a regional race series. Future development will look at guidelines for volunteers, race organisers and supporting the regional committees in resourcing rewards.

Why these changes?  It is Triathlon England volunteers that organise, work with race organisers and communicate with parents to deliver each race series.  As the junior series has grown nationally the workload on volunteers has increased so support is being provided to help them to deliver a Junior Series in each region.  The regional series is also the first rung on the competitive ladder for our young people.  It is therefore, a matter of duty of care to ensure that when youngsters race and train they are properly insured and covered for any unfortunate eventualities.  Along with this they can take advantage of  member benefits.  This paves the way for long term success and enjoyment spent exploring all that triathlon has to offer now and in the future.
