Established in 2003, the Vitruvian started from humble beginnings and less than 250 starters in its first year. Since then the Vitruvian has grown into a respected and iconic race on the UK calendar.
The Vitruvian Triathlon, a well-loved event on the triathlon calendar organised by Pace Setter Events, hosted the 2018 Triathlon England Middle-Distance Triathlon National Championships, the fifth and final TE champs of the season.
Set to the East of Leicestershire, the location of Rutland Water provides a challenging and stunning setting for a middle-distance triathlon, with a dynamic bike course and flat run route. Race conditions were cool, bright and at times a bit breezy as some quick times were laid down over the 1.9km Swim, 85km Bike and 21km run.
Sam Wade backed up British Middle Distance title completing the course in 3:48:31 to take the men's overall win ahead of Mark Matthews (3:50:03) and Will Munday (3:53:06) who each won their respective age-groups.
Katrina Rye topped the women's overall podium in a time of 4:15:38 after putting down the fastest female bike split of the day, edging out fellow F25-29 competitor Rosie Wild (4:21:49) and Michelle Willcocks (4:29:02) who claimed the F30-34 crown.
