Triathlon England Youth Forum’s Mini-Duathlon makes a Big Impression

Published:

In partnership with Challenging Events, the Triathlon England Youth Forum held a “Mini-Duathlon GO TRI” in Southampton to introduce children into the world of multisport.

On Saturday 29th February, the Triathlon England Youth Forum partnered with Challenging Events to hold their first ever multisport event, the ‘Mini Duathlon GO TRI’ at the Ageas Bowl in Southampton. This event was aimed at children aged 8-16, who had little or no previous experience of multisport.

19 participants racked their bikes in transition and eagerly headed towards the start line. For most of the children, the ‘Mini Duathlon GO TRI’ was their first experience of a multisport event and will now act as the start of their triathlon journey.

The course consisted of a 400m run, 1km bike and a final 200m run and was completed by all of the children. The finish line was awash with smiling faces, with the children expressing their excitement for the sport and eagerness to compete in further events in the future. The members of the Triathlon England Youth Forum played a huge part in supporting the event, helping calm nerves as well as offering advice to the children regarding the course and transition area before the start of the event.

Charlotte, the Chair of the Triathlon England Youth Forum, said: “The GO TRI was a massive success. After talking to the kids, for most of them it was their first time participating in a multisport event. Everyone started and ended the race with massive smiles on their face and said that they wanted to compete in future GO TRI events which is amazing.”

Charlotte noted how important this event was for the Youth Forum, saying: “These children now have more knowledge about what multisport is and how easy it can be for them to take part. The aim of the Triathlon England Youth Forum is to encourage more kids to take up triathlon and this event was a great step towards that.”

The Triathlon England Youth Forum was formed in 2019 and consists of nine young people, aged 16-25 The aims of the forum are to encourage and increase the participation of children and young people in triathlon and multisport by removing barriers facing those starting out in the sport.
