Six championship events were held in 2021, providing Triathlon England members with the opportunity to become national champion in a variety of multisport disciplines.
The first championship of the year was the Triathlon England Standard Distance Duathlon Championships which took place in April.
The Yorkshire Duathlon was the host event for the championship and challenged members to a 10km run, 40km bike and a second run of 5km. Croft Motor Racing Circuit was the base for the event, with the track providing part of the course for each discipline.
Across the age groups, 21 national champions were crowned in Yorkshire, with Ashley Robinson winning in the men’s 70 - 74 age group and Barbara Perry winning gold in the women’s 65 - 69 age group. In the youngest age category, 20 - 24 years, Anna Birrell and James Lonsdale secured the victories.
Following a break in championship action, July provided back-to-back championship weekends as first the middle and then the standard distance triathlon championships took place.
The Festival of Endurance played host to the Triathlon England Middle Distance Triathlon Championships as competitors swim, bike, ran their way around Hever Castle in Kent.
The longest of the championships, members had to overcome a 1.9km swim, 90km bike and 21km run in their quest to be claim the championship crown.
The childhood home of Anne Boleyn saw Jack De Bokx win his second Triathlon England Championship medal and first gold in 2021 in the male 60-64 category having finished second at the duathlon championships.
From the south east to the north east, the weekend after saw Woodhorn Museum Triathlon host the Triathlon England Standard Distance Triathlon Championships on 10 July.
Set in Queen Elizabeth II Country Park, the competitors completed their 1,500m swim in the freshwater lake before exiting the park for the bike leg that took them along the coast and back for the run to the finish.
There were 63 medals awarded to podium finishers from U20 to 75-79 age categories. Sam Murray won the male U20 race whilst Sandra Abrams claimed gold in the female 75-79 race.
The National Watersports Centre in Nottingham once again welcomed clubs for the Triathlon England Club Relay Championships. The only championship that is a team rather than individual event, the relay championships provide plenty of excitement and camaraderie.
Taking place over the August bank holiday, teams of four completed a 500m swim, 15km bike and 5km run each, with team members completing each discipline one after another before moving onto the next.
As well as affiliated clubs, race teams made up members won medals in various age categories as part of the championships.
Box End Triathlon hosted the Triathlon England Sprint Distance Triathlon Championships for the penultimate championship event of the year.
A single lap, 750m swim kicked off the race as members took to the Box End Lake. This year saw a new bike route added to the event, taking participants on a 20km course on the edge of Bedford. An off-road run comprised the final leg, with 5.2km route including a 100m finish chute.
Barbara Holmes won her second consecutive championship as the female 60-64 standard distance champion also took gold in the sprint championships for the same age category.
Bringing the Triathlon England Championship season to a close was the aquathlon championships at the Worthing Aquathlon on 19 September.
Kicking off with a 750m sea swim, a flat 5km run along the promenade to the beachfront finish provided a stunning setting for the final championship of the year.
Having been victorious in 2019 when the championships last took place, Neil Arundel once again went home with a gold medal as he won the male 65-69 category.
