Monday 12 April

Conference Keynote and Welcome

Andy Salmon and Jonny Riall hosted by Helen Marney

A welcome from Ryan Georgiades, Managing Director of Yellow Jersey, our Conference Presenting Partner, followed by Helen Marney, Director of Development as she speaks with Andy Salmon, Chief Executive Officer at British Triathlon and Jonathon Riall, Paralympic Head Coach and Team England Triathlon Team Leader for the Commonwealth Games 2022. As they reflect on a very different season over the past twelve months and look forward to what is ahead for them as individuals, the sport and our athletes and participants as we see the return of our sport in the “new normal”.

Coaching Females

Dr Natalie Brown

Have you ever considered the menstrual cycle when coaching females? The menstrual cycle is sometimes kept secret or hidden, yet it can affect females health and performance. This session will explore the menstrual cycle in relation to coaching females, considering both biological and experiences reported by females which may negatively and positively influence training and performance.

Virtual Events and Training

Craig Taylor

Craig's current role at Zwift is Director of Growth Marketing for Running & Triathlon, working on how Zwift can continually deliver unique and compelling experiences to both engage Zwifters and entice new potential Zwifters. In addition to his work at Zwift, Craig is also an avid triathlete and runner, focused on long-course racing. He’s a level 50 Zwift cyclist and level 21 Zwift runner, accumulating 17,500 miles and over 900 hours in game. Tuesday 13 April

Exploring Inclusion

Jamie Hooper

6:30pm - 9:00pm

This workshop will be led by Inclusive Cultures with support from British Triathlon, and will help attendees to kick-start their thinking around equality, diversity and inclusion ahead of the sport returning fully. 

We will hear an update on the latest strategic thinking in this area, including from Sport England and British Triathlon, and we will start to explore modern approaches to providing a truly inclusive participation experience for everyone, no matter how they may want to get involved.

We will start the conversation around what responsibilities a club has to its local community in a post-coronavirus world, and what changes in purpose, structure, delivery, and outreach may be needed to best support local people to get involved.

Child Centred Reboot

Emma Springham, Kate Offord & Dr Liz Scott

6:30pm - 7:30pm

The session will be to work through a reflection on what has happened over the last 12 months – mental health, fears, worries & barriers from both a coach and child perspective.  We will then look at how we can reboot again as a club and what we need to think about moving forward, from that look at the practicalities behind what that would look like – taking a session and making sure we are focusing on what the children’s needs are in many ways and levels using the 4E’s and steps process.

Developing Young Triathletes

Dan Salcedo

7:45pm - 8:30pm

As anyone coaching at this level will know developing young athletes is a very broad and sometimes overcomplicated area. This session will look to discuss some key principles that we hope will support and enhance your coaching of young athletes. This session will aim to be a 50/50 split between presenting thoughts and ideas and having enough time for the requisite questions that we hope will further your knowledge and awareness.

Nutrition - Fuelling Solutions for Racing

Due to the pandemic it has been some time since anyone has been involved in triathlon racing as we know it.  `This session will explore and update on the key principles for developing an effective race nutrition plan.  We will explore the important considerations in the lead up to racing as well as race day itself.    We will cover the requirements of a range of race distances and the discuss solutions to the common challenges that athletes face.

Managing Challenging Situations

This thought-provoking session will explore ways of making an impact on challenging issues and steps you can do to help resolve challenging situations. By looking at ways in which problems can manifest the aim is to share practical ideas that you can take away and apply in your environment.

Social Media

Claire Earley & Lenka Istvanova

The session will revolve around Seven League's renowned 'Building to Brilliance' framework, which has been used to help multiple UEFA National Associations, the current Lionesses squad, and several National Governing Body CEOs. The framework is designed to help clubs and athletes reach more people through social media, which in turn helps to get more people into sport.

This session will look at the guiding principles of running Covid Safe activities and events. This 45-minute session will look to help coaches, activators, clubs and volunteers in delivering safe activities for athletes and members.

Thursday 15 April

TrainingPeaks 101

Simon Ward

This session will provide the basics of Training Peaks - including setting up a coach account, organising a dashboard and using the app for athlete planning. Simon will deliver an interactive session with plenty of opportunities to ask advice and questions.

Start getting the most out of your TrainingPeaks Coach account with these tips and best practices. Learn to set up your account for the most efficiency with your workflow. You'll also learn some tips for planning individual workouts and training blocks as well as some basics of workout analysis, including an introduction to the metrics available in TrainingPeaks.

Performance Pathway

Dan Salcedo and Alasdair Donaldson

The Performance Pathway session will be an opportunity for clubs and coaches to learn more about both our Olympic and Paralympic Pathway structures.  Both Pathways will undergo some changes as we move through 2021 and this is your chance to understand what we are doing, but also crucially why we are doing it.  While Dan (Olympic) and Alasdair (Paralympic) will take you through their respective pathways there will also be the opportunity to ask questions to help further your own understanding so that you can support the athletes you work with as effectively as possible.
