Local Road Closures

Here you will find information about local road closures during Volvo 2022 World Triathlon Para Series Swansea.

Britain’s first ever standalone World Triathlon Para Series event will be hosted by the City of Swansea on Saturday 6th August 2022 and will see Paralympic, World and European champions complete in the pinnacle of paratriathlon competition , as well as up-and-coming athletes in the British Triathlon Paratri Super Series and GO TRI Disability Aquathlon.

We recognise the impact this will have on the residents and businesses of Swansea, and would like to express our gratitude in advance for your support.

Temporary road closures will be in place to ensure the safety of athletes and the public.

The closures will take place on Friday 5 August to enable the elite course familiarisations, and on Saturday 6 August for Elite and Non-elite races.

These legal road closures are implemented under the Road Traffic Regulation (Special Events) Act 1994 and applies to all vehicles, bikes and horses that are not involved in the event.

• Designated crossing points on the cycle and run courses will be signposted and marshalled, and we request pedestrians use these at all times.
• Essential access for carers will be facilitated. Contact
• There are NO RESTRICTIONS at any time to any of the emergency services.
• No parking will be permitted on the bike and run courses with vehicle towing in operation.


MARITIME QUARTER — FRIDAY 09:00-10:30 & SATURDAY 10:00-18:00

The cycle course uses Dunvant Place, between Bathhurst Street and Oystermouth Rd. There will be no vehicle move- ment permitted whilst the race is live and all on-street parking is suspended. If you wish to exit the Maritime Quar- ter on Saturday, managed access will be facilitated from Paxton Street car park between 10:00-12:00, 14:00-14:20 and 15:30-15:45 only. Access to the Maritime Quarter will be managed via Glamorgan Street only between the same windows of 10:00-12:00, 14:00-14:20 and 15:30-15:45. If you wish to exit or access the Maritime Quarter on Satur- day afternoon outside these times. you are requested to park elsewhere in the city and proceed by foot.

OYSTERMOUTH ROAD — FRIDAY 09:00-10:30 & SATURDAY 10:00-18:00

The cycle course will use Oystermouth Rd westbound between Somerset Place and Guildhall Rd South, and eastbound between Guildhall Rd South and West Way. Traffic coming from the east will be diverted across the Tawe Bridge and then north on the A483, before either taking the A4118 to Sketty Cross, A4118 and B4290 to St Helen’s or A4216 south towards Mumbles Road. Traffic coming from the west will be diverted onto A4216 Sketty Lane. Access to Sainsbury’s will be maintained throughout the event.

SA1 WATERFRONT — FRIDAY 09:30-11:00 & SATURDAY 07:30-18:30

The run course will use Kings Rd northbound, the cycle path adjacent to Fabian Way before heading south on Langdon Rd and then westbound back to Kings Rd. Traffic will be diverted on Langdon Rd eastbound to the roundabout leading to Fabian Way. Residents in South Quay will not be able to exit from the underground car park after 7:30am on Saturday morning, but will be able to access the car park from 6:30pm on Saturday evening.


The finish chute, finish line and post-finish services will be located on Kings Road after the junction with Island Road through to the west port gate. The footways alongside the River Tawe from Trafalgar Bridge around UWTSD and the tidal basin will be closed to the public.
